JASON PAPAGE/REUTERS: WEDDING PARTY, THE NEW YORKER.
The Hollywood thriller is a love story, a tragedy, and a miracle.
It’s also an action-packed, hard-hitting, heart-wrenching, and deeply human film.
That’s what this week’s preview of The Wedding Party means: a movie that we’ll see again, again, and again.
That, and you.
The movie opens nationwide on July 19, and is directed by J. Michael Straczynski (The Wedding Singer), a seasoned Hollywood veteran whose credits include the likes of Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Expendables, and many more.
We caught up with Straczyk in New York City for our review of the movie.
What do you love most about The Wedding Queen?
Well, it’s one of the most ambitious and emotionally devastating films I’ve ever seen, I think.
I was completely blown away by it.
I’m not just talking about the visuals, but the emotional stuff as well.
The characters are real, and the writing is so good.
It just goes to show that J.J. Abrams is a master of storytelling and directing.
How do you feel about the movie’s cast?
The cast is amazing.
It is such a unique cast.
The film is about a woman who, for whatever reason, finds a way to marry her best friend, a man.
The husband she married turns out to be an old friend of hers, and he’s also got a great story to tell.
The plot unfolds in this woman’s head.
I think this film has such a strong emotional impact that I really love.
How did you develop the story for the film?
Well it was a big idea for J.
Michael to go back to her life as an adult and see how her relationship with her husband was going to develop.
And the way that her life goes from there, I thought that would be really cool to explore that in the film.
And that’s what we did.
We started with her life and how her husband got her into this relationship and how that relationship is evolving.
Then we had to find a way for her to tell that story.
The idea of this woman having a story to share and being able to tell it to someone who doesn’t know her is just wonderful.
The only thing that we didn’t really find in the script was a way of showing the marriage as it was growing and changing over time.
What did you find?
The marriage is growing and evolving over time and that’s where the characters and how they develop and grow are really interesting to me.
They’re human beings, and we need to have those characters grow as well, and I think that was the main thing.
We just tried to tell a story that we thought was important.
What were some of the hardest parts of the story?
Well the biggest thing was telling a love triangle, but that was more of a side story for me.
I wanted to make it as complex as possible and I tried to have that in there.
I would have liked to see it continue but I had to make sure it was moving in the right direction.
I did have to work really hard to get the story to move in that direction.
What was the most challenging part of shooting this film?
Making the film took a lot of time, and it’s so well paced.
I feel like it’s not a simple film to make.
I had so many takes to get right and I didn’t have a lot time to rehearse or to reheare and rehearse again.
The biggest challenge for me was the pace of it.
The entire time that I was shooting, I was filming for the first time and I was like, I can’t believe this is actually happening!
It was just incredible.
I also had to be really careful about pacing.
I really wanted to get it moving at the right pace and I felt like I was trying to juggle too much, but I think it worked out really well.
How was the film received?
Well there were so many people who loved it that it was really surprising to me how well it did.
I’ve been trying to get people to see my work, so they can really relate to it and feel what I’m going through, and how I feel.
I got a lot more people to like it than they thought they would.
I mean I have people who don’t like me, but they’ll like my work anyway.
I just hope that people will see it and give it a chance.
What are some of your upcoming projects?
I have a couple more movies coming out that I think people are really going to enjoy.
There’s an epic sci-fi movie coming out called I, Daniel Blake.
And then there’s a sequel to that, I Am Legend, which I just finished shooting. There
