When it comes to online shopping, the prices are just as good anywhere.
The price difference between the United States and Britain is not that big, according to a report from the U.K.-based consultancy iRobot.
The company says its UK-based clients spend $8.50 on average per item, but they can expect to pay $1.30 per item in Australia and New Zealand.
The company says it’s also been hit hard by a fall in Amazon prices, which have dropped over the past two months from $3.60 per item to $2.30.
Its Australian competitors, meanwhile, have been hit even harder.
In an interview with iRobots UK head of customer experience David Smith, iRobos UK chief executive officer Richard Gaudette said the company is “absolutely confident” that its Australian competitors are “better than us”.
“It’s really important to understand that Australia has been a very important market for us,” Mr Gaudettes said.
“I think the fact that they’re being targeted by Amazon is very significant.”
“The Australian market is incredibly strong,” he said.
“It’s a huge market for them and we’re confident that we can compete with them.”
The company has been struggling to compete with the online giant Amazon for a while now, with the firm offering a number of online store loyalty programs that encourage its customers to shop at Amazon’s stores.
“We think we can deliver a really good product that people love,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Gaudets said the competition for the Australian market was “unprecedented” and has created a “huge challenge for us”.
He said the UK had a much more stable retail environment compared to the United Kingdom.
“It really is a huge and significant challenge to us,” he added.
“There’s a very, very strong consumer loyalty program, so we’re very comfortable with that.”
Mr Smith said the price differences were “pretty close to what you’d find in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, where they are actually quite expensive”.
“In Singapore, there’s a $5 store loyalty card that’s available for $5 to $15,” he explained.
“So we think it’s actually quite a good deal for consumers.”
The iRobotech CEO also said the companies biggest challenge would be keeping up with Amazon’s pace of technological changes.
“In the next 10 years, it’s going to be really difficult for Amazon to compete,” he predicted.
“When they introduce new products, it changes the way they do things.”
